Frequently Asked Questions
Who are you?
Hello! My name is Sadie, and I’ve been living with mental health diagnoses for the past 20 years. I have been diagnosed, past and present, with ADHD, Bipolar I, Depression, Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
I have a husband, a young daughter, and 2 cats. I love my family more than anything in the world. They help keep me grounded in a world that is ever-changing and difficult to navigate.
Why did you start this blog?
I started this blog for a few reasons, but the biggest reason was to help spread awareness about mental health as a whole. There is still too much of a stigma against mental health, even here in the 21st century. I wanted to make a safe space for me and for others to discuss the challenges we face and celebrate the victories we experience as a community, while spreading what knowledge I can about coping mechanisms and helpful skills I’ve come across.
What is the difference between Bipolar and Depression?
Bipolar disorder differs from depression in a major way. While people who suffer from bipolar disorder experience depression, they also experience mania or hypomania. Mania is an intensely, usually recklessly, elevated mood. Some people experience euphoria, grandiose thoughts and actions, and exibit dangerous behaviors.
Hypomania is a less severe form of mania, but is usually characterized by an elevated mood outside of the person’s “typical.” People with Bipolar swing from one extreme to the other over the course of weeks.
What is bipolar I disorder?
Bipolar I disorder is a mental health condition characterized by extreme mood swings, including emotional highs (mania or hypomania) and lows (depression). These episodes can affect sleep, energy, activity, judgment, behavior, and the ability to think clearly, impacting daily life significantly.
